Renaissance Fair- a place of acceptance
The renaissance fair is a place of fantasy and fun, but most of all acceptance and support. For the past three years I have had the pleasure of attending Brevard County's renaissance festival, and I have to say it is one of my favorite events in the community. No matter who you are, what walk of life you come from, or your beliefs, everyone is welcomed and feels special at ren fair. The moment you park your care in the lot, there is diversity- people dressed to the nines, people dressed in casual cosplay, full homemade cosplay, casual day clothes, and so much more. Everyone is open and encouraging, but never pushing beyond people's individual comfort levels. Performers from singers, archery, comedians, acrobatics, to flame and sword swallowing constantly captivate audiences and stages surround you in every step. Shops around every corner sell their wares, including everything from local honey to hiking boots that look like knee high leather boots. The renaissance fair is truly a place unlike any other.
It's also been a place of marking my own personal growth. Looking back at photos from even a year ago, I see how much my skills have grown. This year also included some bravery and growth from me and my friends, as we got to walk around this year holding my friend's snakes and one even loved hitching a ride as I snapped photos. This experience is truly like no other, and I love my visit every year. Sadly they are having to find a new location due to new policy from the county commishioners- but I know wherever they go- I will be excited to follow.
